Book Report: Silent Power by Stewart Wilde
Wilde’s ‘Silent Power’ is a small book, and the version I bought could probably fit into my pants pockets and took a couple of sessions in the man’s library to finish. I originally read this book way back in 99 and gave it another look over a while back. It has a new age flavor, but don’t be put off - it has quite a few solid ideas applicable no matter what your belief system. The main thrust of the book is that you have an internal silent power that influences and communicates with others. With time, you can control and perceive your silent power.
Overview:
You have an etheric body, a soul like energy that Wilde states is the definitive you. This body of energy is aura-like and can communicate to other people directly through their etheric bodies. Connected vitally to your physical body, your etheric can be frazzled or calm, over-extended or grounded, weak or potent. When you are mentally needy, trying to get people to notice you or listen to a complaint, you are engaging in psychic leaning. Lacking silent power (due to personal insecurities), we lean forward etherically speaking and infringe upon others to hold us up and suck energy out of them. Wilde uses the ideas of silent power of the etheric body as a basic platform on which to understand charisma and presence. Exuding confidence is about being completely solid etherically.
Chapters:
The Getting of Wisdom
He explains the basics of etheric bodies and the spirit/soul energy that it emits.
Power Hunger and Power Starved
Our ego’s have an immature need to show off. This insecurity constantly drains us by searching for validation. We lean forward, searching for validation and create frantic energy. “Trying to be someone” comes from an insecurity, which stems from the ego’s need for observers and admirers. A self identity that needs acknowledgment and stimulation to feel solid leads one to lean psychologically and emotionally out into the world – demanding to be noticed, trying to be cool, seeking approval and acceptance, trying to impress, seeking praise and respect – creates imbalance and weakness. It is, in fact, an affirmation that says, “I’m not okay. I need others to approve of me in order to feel secure.” By leaning psychologically, you weaken yourself. Imagine constantly leaning forward at a severe angle, reaching out – you are perpetually poised, heading for a fall.”
The author claims that if you want to be acknowledged or accepted, simply accept yourself and acknowledge yourself from within.
The Silent Consolidation of Power
Wilde writes about the virtues of being calm and solid. He proposes that physically walking is really controlled falling - leaning the torso forward past your balance point, falling, then catching yourself by extending your legs. He writes,“Psychologically and emotionally, life is the same as walking for most people.” and, “The initial point in consolidating your silent power is to discipline yourself to stop leaning.”
He offers three points to “stand straight in life”:
1. Don’t lean toward things you don’t have.
2. Don’t lean into the future – stay in the now.
3. Design your life so that you don’t require things from others. Don’t suck on people emotionally or intellectually.
“When you lean psychologically or emotionally on people or toward them, it’s a sure sign of insecurity. It makes others feel uncomfortable. They resent the weight you are laying on them, and they will react by denying you. They don’t like your self-indulgence, and your insecurity reminds them of their own vulnerability; it rattles them.”
He explains his concept that there is an energetic war going on, a battle with demons of insecurity.
Silent Talking
Stating that, “Most people talk too much”, Wilde suggests that you control your need to talk, and to avoid talking about yourself – this develops secrecy and mystery about you but also cuts back on your need for validation. Don’t waste words, and when talking to people remain underneath them psychologically (For those in the PUA community, his words subltly remind me of Tyler D’s classic 25 points and getting girls to qualify to you).
When your etheric energy bubble comes in contact with another body, trillions of fingers of energy react with it, like a controlled mist touching and feeling out another mist. Electrical chemistry. There are two kinds of telepathic communication, one of them where you shoot a question into the other persons mind and a response will bounce back to you from the other persons subconscious. Beneath their consciousness, their etheric mind takes care of this communication for them. The second type of telepathic communication involves connecting to the universal mind, where all our intelligences are linked together.
The Wisdom of Non-Action
Wu Wei, or non-action, is a Zen like principle that means effortless flow. He mentions that struggle is not natural, but effort is. Effort and struggle have emotions linked to them and play with our etheric energy. Wilde stresses that struggle is bad and your deep mind will sabotage things it knows you shouldn’t do. Wu Wei is a freeing idea and helps you know if you’re in the right places, too slow or fast, or if you need more patience.
Developing Subtle Feelings
“People perceive your consolidated power subliminally, and they respond accordingly.” He talks about how emotions are outcroppings of preferences and when life contradicts these opinions or preferences we generally are sad. Reduce your expectations of the world, don’t lean and be happier.
He suggests becoming sensitive internally, and not just what most people think of extrasensory perception. Fasting (food and speech), meditation, talking to the trees and the like. Most people, according to Wilde, are swamped and in the center of a mental tornado. People watching as an exercise helps you become aware.
In this chapter he also gives some interpretations of body language. One of them is how a tilted chin and an up turning of the underside of the nose and lip are signs of arrogance. People look how they feel etherically.
Inside Nature of Self
Here, Wilde dips into some really “out there” stuff, like us being made of stardust and really being eternal and connected to all life. He draws conclusions to why this is important – a harmony and something about having more internal solidarity and power.
Extrasensory Etheric Perception
Here he details a couple of exercises to see the etheric energies, much like aura reading. It begins with extending your peripheral vision. Once you see it - but you don’t have to see it to manipulate yours and others - you can see into people, and touch them. He gives an overview of distant (remote) viewing others etheric bodies. He mentions that you should see the whole world as energy and not that every thought and thing you do makes impressions on the energy signatures around you.
Psychic Protection
The best defense is to have a solidly formed energy that is smooth and doesn’t stick out. You are rooted/centered and almost invisible etherically. You can be on a different plane so to speak and etheric vampires won’t notice you or have anything to hook on to. Your energy is smooth and centered.
Another good defense is to have nothing to defend; no judgments, opinions, criticisms, or imposing realities that need to be upheld by you. You can’t be offended.
